What is long-term care?
Long-term care is the care you need when you no longer can take care of yourself. It usually involves your ability to lead an independent life. Most long-term care is provided in your own home or in special retirement living settings (assisted living facilities). When long-term care strikes it can cost thousands of dollars per year. Recent surveys by a number of authoritative sources indicate the average cost of long-term care in Iowa is $49,918 annually.
The Financial Risk You Are Facing:
It isn't the cost today that should worry you, it's tomorrow's cost. Currently the rate of inflation in the long-term care sector exceeds 5% per year. Costs are being driven up each year by an increasing inability to find qualified caregivers. This means that your risk (cost) doubles every 14 years. If you are 60-years old today and have a typical 3 to 5 year long-term care claim in your early 80's, you will need somewhere between $460,000 to $767,000 set aside to pay the costs. And this is just you. Your spouse might need care as well.
Where will the money come from?
Since most of us will live a long life, we are likely to need long-term care. Without insurance to pay for these escalating costs it means that a great deal of what you are working for will end up going to pay for you or your spouse's future long-term care expenses. What will this mean to you, your family and the legacy that you plan to leave?
The time to purchase long term care insurance on your loved one is while you are healthy.
